safe driver

Operation Safe Driver Week is here, and it’s all about promoting safer driving habits among commercial and passenger vehicle drivers. From July 13 to 19, law enforcement is increasing traffic safety enforcement and education efforts, with this year’s focus on speeding.

During this week, officers will be monitoring for behaviors that put drivers and others at risk, such as:

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Following too closely
  • Improper lane changes
  • Not wearing a seatbelt
  • Aggressive or reckless driving

Why Does It Matter?

Operation Safe Driver Week is more than one-week enforcement campaign, it’s a reminder that safety behind the wheel saves lives. Truck drivers log thousands of miles a week, often under tight schedules. However speeding or driving while distracted increases the risk of crashes, injuries, and costly downtime.

Tips for Safer Driving

  • Know the speed limits and adjust for road/weather conditions
  • Eliminate distractions- phones, food, and even fatigue
  • Maintain safe following distances to avoid rear-end collisions
  • Inspect your vehicle regularly to prevent equipment-related violations
  • Use your ELD data to monitor improve driving habits
